Vocational Experience
My experience at Worcester Vocational High school has been the best in my life. Being in a school where you can learn academics and a trade is a privilege. It is giving you the opportunity to graduate with a diploma and a skill. I have learned to be reliable and have a better attitude. I have also learned about communication with others, calculating, and to perform the job I am being trained for.
Being reliable is the most important characteristic that a person must have in order to keep a good job. One way to show that you are reliable is to be on time. Listen to what the client wants and make them happy. Doing so will not only gain your clients trust but it will also bring more business. The job of cosmetologists is to make the client look and feel better. Making them happy will make you happy because you have done a good job.
Having a good attitude will make you seem very pleasant. Other people will want to work with you or want you to perform services on them. Always greet a customer and have conversations. The conversations must be non-controversial so talk about the weather or the news. Also be able to talk to your co-workers. Do not be afraid to ask for help or opinions.
Learning to communicate and calculate will help you for business. You must learn to communicate with other people if you want a good reputation. Hairstylists want people coming in feeling good but leaving feeling even better. The fastest way to get a good or bad reputation is by word of mouth. Calculating is important for making prices, making payments to workers, or paying off bills for the salon. You also need to calculate when mixing chemicals. It is really important to calculate the time needed for each service. For example when you bleach someone’s hair to a certain blonde you need to know the time it will take to get to that color.
Paying close attention to your instructors is important. You have to be able to perform the job you have been trained for. Cosmetologists have many jobs. TO be ne you have to know how to do all services and have to be able to stand for long periods of time. Always make the client feel welcome and always follow sanitation rules. All salons must be very well sanitized. Remember that you want to keep your clients happy and safe.
Being in a vocational high school may sound hard but it is worth it. When I graduate I can go to college or just go straight to work. If I had gone to a regular high school I would not have had this opportunity. Now I have the chance to show my skills and be creative. I thank my school for the skills I have learned as well as the challenging academics. That is why I say Worcester Vocational has given me the best experiences.
